BEFORE THE SESSION

As soon as you are interested in booking a session, please contact me. We will discuss all of the specifics of what you are looking to get out of your newborn session.

Once I book your newborn session you will receive an email with a questionnaire to make sure all details are saved in one place.

Your booking is not secured until the non refundable retainer fee is paid for, this will be sent as an invoice to your email and must be paid within 24 hours or the session will be canceled.

The remainder of the session can be paid in installments but it must be 100% paid for within 24 hours before the session date and time.

If you have any specific poses that you would like to capture, you can send me a screen shot via text prior to the session.

I have a workflow that I use when photographing newborns, and if there is a pose that a baby is feeling uncomfortable in, I will never force them to do that pose, all babies are different and can have preferences.

During the Session

Newborn photography is very hands on so you must be comfortable with me handling your little one a lot during the session.

Although our goal is to create breathtaking photos of your new addition, the safety of your baby is my TOP priority!

Once you arrive to the studio and get settled, we will begin your session. The room will be warmed to 80 degrees and a sound machine will be playing to keep baby calm and comfortable.

Expect to feed baby at least once during your session. I usually ask parents to try to keep baby awake 2-3 hours prior to your session so baby is nice and sleepy. Sleepy babies pose the best! (I will send you a link to my prep guide once you have booked with details on what to do before your session).

After the session

After your session, I will upload your images to my computer and cull through to show you only the absolutely best images that were captured.

I do send a soft proof gallery within 2-3 weeks of the session date; there is where you can choose your favorites for the number of images that was included in the package you chose. (You always have the option to purchase additional images or the entire gallery for a discounted price.)

During the editing process, I will keep with my normal editing style- the style you booked me for! My goal is to give you timeless, beautiful photos that showcase your family's unique bond.

Once you have decided on your images, please be sure to let me know you have finished so I can get started on the final editing. Expect to receive your final gallery within 1 week of finalizing your favorites. Then they are yours to print and share as you please!

Please tag me on social media when possible, 80% of my business comes from word of mouth, and the other is from social media.

Thank you!

What can you do to prepare for your newborn session?

This info can seem like a lot or be overwhelming, but please read all of it to best prepare for your session. I promise sessions can go much more smoothly if you already understand how I will run the session as well as prepare yourself and baby for the session.

Please do NOT feed baby prior to leaving for your session, unless absolutely necessary.

  • Try to keep baby awake 1-2 hours prior to your session (if possible) and plan to feed baby as soon as you arrive to the studio. I understand that babies fall asleep in car rides and that's ok!
  • If you are nursing, it is best to keep a bottle of expressed milk on hand (if possible) during the session to easily feed baby as needed. Or be prepared to nurse on demand if baby is showing signs of needing a comfort suckle or is rooting due to hunger.
  • Be sure to bring extra formula / bottles if your baby is bottle-fed.
  • Pacifiers are also extremely helpful for keeping baby asleep. I understand that hospitals encourage new moms to not use a pacifier because it can cause nipple confusion, but please bring one if you can, as sometimes this is the only way a baby will settle (especially nursing babies).
  • If baby has never had formula, please do not feed formula prior to the session, or during the session as this can upset babies tummy and cause for a very angry and gassy newborn.
  • WHAT TO BRING BABY DRESSED IN. Please do not put baby in a multiple piece outfit, this causes too much movement during changing. It is best to bring them in a sleeper that zips or snaps, we want to do our best and not have to take anything OVER babies head when changing. Onesies are ok as long as they are the ones that stretch to go down over the shoulders.
  • If you have booked a family session, I try and photograph the family portion first for a number of reasons; it is very very warm in my studio, as well as if you have a toddler they can lose their attention very quickly.
  • I do have blocks as well as a doll house that is specifically for your kids to play with while they wait for their turn during the session.
  • Something many parents may overlook before a session is clean and tidy nails for everyone. They don't necessarily have to be done as not everyone gets manicures, but please be sure they are to your own standards. I do often use mom, dad or siblings hands in close up pictures of babies fingers and toes, and they also will be seen in the portraits of baby with mom solo, baby with dad solo, so its best to be prepared for that as nails are very difficult to edit, and that is something that would have to be an additional fee because it will be outsourced.

FAQ

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Simple is best. I have a full newborn closet available for you to choose an outfit from if that's included with the session you booked. I recommend the rest of the family wear clothing that coordinates without matching exactly. Neutral and soft colors best match my style. Avoid black or saturated colors such as red. Don't be afraid of patterns! On my instagram I frequently reshare posts from stylists that I follow and encourage my clients to follow those stylist as well.

Should I bring any props?

All props are provided for posed newborn sessions, but please let me know if you have any personal or sentimental items you would like to incorporate prior to your session.

Can I choose a theme for my newborn session?

Absolutely you can! I LOVE themed newborn sessions.

I have so many different outfits that are Disney related, as well as Harry Potter themed, and many more.

Please be sure to let me know what ideas you have when booking so I can be as best prepared for what you'd like me to include and capture.
